Broadband Development Project

The Broadband Development Project commenced in January 2008 and is scheduled to run for 2 years.  The project has been developed in partnership between the Murraylands Regional Development Board, Riverland Development Corporation and the Murray and Mallee Local Government Association and is supported by funding from the Australian Government under the Clever Networks Program.

The Clever Networks Program is a component of the Australian Broadband Development Network which in turn is part of Australia Connected – the Australian Government’s complete broadband solution for Australia.

The Project Manager is based in the Murray Bridge office of the Murraylands Regional Development Board. The projects main objectives are:

  • Support the implementation of a range of infrastructure projects by raising awareness of the benefits of broadband services
  • Run information sessions and workshops to raise awareness of broadband technology and its potential uses for both home and business
  • Improve community understanding of broadband technology/applications - including ADSL versus wireless versus satellite, VOIP, virtual private networking, mobile coverage, video-conferencing etc and any new or emerging technology that may be relevant for the region
  • Support the Indigenous, migrant and remote communities to increase the uptake of broadband services
  • Offer advice and facilitation, as required, to potential buyers in negotiations with Broadband suppliers to meet their specific requirements
  • Identifying and documenting priority areas and opportunities for new and/or improved broadband services
  • Supporting broadband infrastructure and network rollout
